Marian Frances Noonon Downing, age 86, of Owosso, MI died Saturday, October 1st, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Services will be held at First Church of Christ, Owosso, MI on Thursday, October 6th at 11:00 A.M. Pastors Ronald Wilson and Chris Higgins will officiate. Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI. Visitation will also be at the church one hour before the service.
Marian was born in Laingsburg, Michigan on October 24, 1924, the daughter of Glen Waterman and Clara A. (Hempstead) Case.
She married Martin Earl Noonon on January 27, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 2, 1964. She married G. Hudson Downing on June 9, 1973 and he preceded her in death on June 8, 2007.
Marian was a dedicated member of her church family at the First Church of Christ in Owosso, MI since 1934. She was very active in supporting missionary work, taught Sunday School and Bible Study, and for many years assisted in providing a Sunday church service for the residents of Pleasant View Nursing Home.
She was very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) organization, and the Shiawassee Council on Aging.
She worked at the Axford Coal Company in Owosso in the 1940's, and thereafter at Universal Electric, with her last employment being in the U.S. Agricultural Office, from 1965 to her retirement in 1984.
After retiring, Marian enjoyed many new adventures and travel as an assistant bus tour guide. She and her then husband, Hud, had a chance to travel much of the country and shared many tales of these trips.
Marian is survived by son Kenneth (Carolee) Noonon of Owosso, MI; son James (Kathryn) Noonon of Owosso, MI; daughter Gaylee Noonon of Owosso, MI; son Rick (Robin) Noonon of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren Christine Noonon, Jeffrey Noonon, Todd Noonon, Douglas Noonon and David (Kathleen) Noonon, four great grandchildren Zachary and Matthew Noonon, Anna Noonon and Heidi Noonon, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will always remember her unconditional love for them.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, Marian was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Noonon and eleven siblings, Clyde Case, Clifford Case, Doris Hisler, Homer Case, Leo Case, Florence Case, Edna Gilman, Edwin Case, Lawrence Case, Arlene Wilson and Robert Case.
Memorials may be made to Shiawassee Council on Aging or Shiawassee Respite Volunteers.
