Marie Genevieve Wakefield, age 72, of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Avalon Hospice, Flint, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Owosso, MI on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Duane Harris will officiate. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 26, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso.
Marie was born in Owosso, Michigan on August 23, 1936, the daughter of Clarence A. and Rachel (Highsmith) Wakefield and resided most of her life in Owosso. Marie worked at Pleasantview for 28 years as a Certified Nurse's Aide. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active with the United Methodist Women and a member of the Historical Society both of Owosso. She will be remembered as a caring and giving person who cared for many with her wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by a sister-in-law Geraldine Wakefield of Owosso, MI, 2 brothers; Clarence Wakefield of Nashville, TN & Larry and Irene Morden of Germany. Marie is also survived by several nieces & nephews and special friends; Alice and Frank Hajek, Marvin and Elaine Mitchell & Jan Mayer. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers; Robert, Harold, Joseph & Carl, a sister Leona Williams, step-father Laurence Morden, and foster mother Aletha Pierce.
