Marilyn Jean Lumsden, age 88, of Ithaca, MI, received her heart's desire and was welcomed into the arms of the Savior Thursday, February 9, 2023, at MyMichigan Medical Center - Gratiot.
A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023, with Pastor Gary Simmons officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Ithaca Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the service.
Marilyn was born in Oscelo County, Michigan on June 17, 1934, the daughter of Merrill William and Esther Lulu (Akins) Amy. After raising seven children, she earned her GED from Ithaca High School with the class of 1972. She resided most of her life in Ithaca and was a member of the Ithaca United Methodist Church. On March 14, 1975, Marilyn married Richard Ayre Lumsden III at Ithaca Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with forty-one years of marriage prior to his death on September 5, 2016.
Marilyn a devoted wife and mother to her seven children and all the neighborhood children also. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Brownie Troop Leader, and a Sunday School teacher. She loved her family and always looked forward to spending time with them. Marilyn's faith in Christ was the bedrock of her life. She supported her family and those she knew and loved with her daily prayer life. Her well-worn Bible was never far from her side. Even in death, the last words on her lips were the words of Psalm 121.
She is survived by four children: Steve (Bonnie) Wolfgang of Newberry, MI; Christine (Russell) Roberts of Williamsburg, KY; Mary Kubin of St. Louis, MI; and Betty (Dr. H.C.) Wakefield of Stanton, MI; seven grandchildren: Jeff (Maria) Wolfgang, Ben Sowers, Jacob Sowers, Christian Sowers, Dr. Becca (Jason) Jasinski, Amy (Jonathan) Bowman, and Sean (Nikki) Lumsden; eleven great- grandchildren: Brianne, Nora, Logan, Corbin, Taylor, Easton, Gunner, Annabelle, Jackson, Alaina, and Madison; brother-in-law Walter Lumsden, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, young sons: Leonard and Allen Wolfgang; son Robert Wolfgang, son-in-law Henry Kubin, all five siblings: Ilene, Verna, Pauline, Daniel, and Harold; and several close brothers and sisters in Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Women's Aid of Gratiot County, Ithaca Food Pantry, or, in Marilyn's memory, take someone to lunch and spend time with them.
