Marlynn Roy "Mert" Thornton, age 76, of Elsie, MI passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Sparrow Health in Lansing, MI.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Burton Community United Methodist Church, 510 N. Baldwin Road, Owosso, MI, on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. with a luncheon to follow.
Marlynn was born in St. Johns, Michigan on February 3, 1938, the son of Earl R. and Cereta A. (Devries) Thornton. He graduated from Elsie High School, and he had served in the U.S. Army. Mert was a lifelong resident of Elsie, and retired from Federal Mogul in St. Johns in 2000. He loved nature, camping, and hunting. Mert was a history buff. He was a very generous man who loved to help others, and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his 5 children; Carl and Annette Thornton of Elsie, MI, Mark Thornton of Ovid, MI, Lynnsue and Craig Jolley of New York, Shannon and Steven Loomis of Ovid, MI, Joshua and Lexi Thornton of Oregon, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Roland and Ruth Thornton of Lake, MI, Keith and Patsy Thornton of Sturgis, MI, and sister Laura and Jim White of Benson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, son in law James Dennison, and his close friend Betty Dankert.
