Martha Maxa age 93 of Ashley, Michigan, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Ashley Health Care Center, Ashley, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 3:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel with burial at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt and Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate and visitation will be Monday 3-8 P.M. with an Order of Eastern Star Service Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. and Rosary will be prayed Monday evening at 7:30 P.M. and Tuesday Morning at 11:00 A.M.
Martha was born in Bannister, Michigan on March 25, 1912 the daughter of James & Anna ( Matousek ) Skaryd, she resided most of her life in Ashley, Michigan. She attended and graduated from the Kelsey school. On September 6, 1930 she married Joseph Maxa; he predeceased her October 18, 1979.
She was a homemaker on the family farm near Ashley where she and her husband raised their family. In 1932 she became a member of the ZCBJ Lodge in Bannister, Michigan. Through the many years of membership, she worked on many projects with the lodge. In 1980 she was named Mother of the year at the lodge and received her 50 year pin April 4, 1982. She was also a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan.
Survivors include her 4 daughters, Martha & Jim Maddix of Gaylord, MI, Dorothy & Lloyd Dougherty of Ithaca, MI, Marianne Ward of Ashley, MI, Diane & Jim Korienek of St. Johns, MI, 1 son, Richard & Karen Maxa of St. Johns, MI, 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a sister, Vlasta Kopta of Merrill, MI. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 brothers & 4 sisters.
The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
