Mary W. Brewer age 96 of St. Louis, Michigan died Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Pine River Healthcare Center in St. Louis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marya�(TM)s Catholic Church, Alma, Michigan on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2005 from 5 to 8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel. A Prayer Service will be held Friday at 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mary was born in Northport, Michigan on January 31, 1909 the daughter of William & Maude ( Trombly ) Gorman. Mary married Clifford "Butch" Brewer in 1925, he predeceased her in 1950. She was a lifelong resident of St.Louis. Mary & her son Bill operated Brewers Meat & Food Market which had been in the family since 1885 and operated until 1969 when it closed. She then was a Realtor Associate for McDonald Real Estate, in Alma. She received Sales Associate of the year award and retired at the age of 78. Mary enjoyed most playing golf and scored a 38, 2 over par, and broke the ladies record at the Ithaca Gratiot Country Club. She was the Pine River and Central Michigan Champion for many years, a score of 37 on the first 9 holes at Clare was a record for 50 years. She was awarded 27 golf trophies. She was the first women to be elected to the St. Louis School board.
She is survived by 3 children, son William ( Bill ) & Beverly Brewer of Remus, Michigan, 2 daughters; Virjean & Frank Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Betty Richardson of Alma, Michigan, 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, son Gorman in 1989, 3 sisters & 3 brothers.
Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
