Mary G. Klein, age 65, of Fowler, MI, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, MI, at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, with Rev. Fr. John Klein celebrating and Rev. Fr. Mike Depcik concelebrating. Interpreters will be provided. Burial will take place at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery following the luncheon which will be served immediately after the mass. Visitation will be held from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Goerge Chapel, Fowler with a Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held on Saturday morning from 8:45 A.M.-9:15 A.M. at the funeral home.
Mary was born in St. Johns, Michigan on November 23, 1956, the daughter of John J. and Mary J. (Koenigsknecht) Klein.
Mary graduated from Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint in 1975. She graduated from the National Technical Institute of the Deaf in Rochester, New York in 1978 with an associate's degree in Medical Records Technology. She also graduated from the Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan in 1997 with an associate's degree in Fine Arts. Mary started her career at Sparrow Hospital where she worked for 15 years. She also worked at the Grand River Car Assembly plant for General Motors in Lansing for 21 years and retired in 2018. During both of these careers, Mary was an adjunct faculty member of the Lansing Community College Interpreter Training Program for 37 years as a part-time instructor. In her free time, she enjoyed doing arts & crafts, reading good books, and doing research on MSD history. Mary was a fantastic artist and created illustrations for many publications. She also loved spending time with her family and cats.
She is survived by six siblings: Rose Hafner of Fowler, Fr. John Klein of East Lansing, William (Ruth) Klein of Pewamo, Monica (Edward) Martin of Fowler, Thomas (Debra) Klein of Pewamo, and Lucy (Bruce) Nurenberg of Pewamo. She is also survived by nieces and nephews: Therese, Nadine, Nicole, John, Matthew, Andrew, Jeanette, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Scott, Peter, Tara, Nicholas and special niece and friend Maria; and her cats: Lincoln and Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James "Jake" Klein and brother-in-law Neil Hafner.
