Mary Samson Matthews, age 80 of Corunna, Michigan passed away Monday, December 15, 2003 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility in Corunna. She was a farmer and homemaker and also worked at the Mitchell Corporation in Owosso.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Rev. Fr. David Fisher will officiate with burial at St. Paula�(TM)s Catholic Cemetery, Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 and Thursday from 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. There will also be a Rosary prayed Thursday Evening at 7:00 P.M.
Mary was born on July 11, 1923 in Elsie, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Smetka) Stasa. She attended the Colony School. On February 2, 1991 she married Lloyd G. Matthews in Zephyr Hills, Florida. She enjoyed cooking Czech food and making Afghans. She loved to listen to and sing Polkaa�(TM)s and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso, and a member of ZCBJ Lodge of Owosso. She resided most of her life in the Corunna area.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd G. Matthews of Corunna, MI, daughter, Patricia (Richard) Salters of Owosso, MI, daughter Jane Samson & Tim Whitney of Gladwin, MI, son, Frank (Lynda) Samson of Owosso, MI, daughter, Nancy (Ronald) Gray of Clarkston, MI, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, stepdaughter, Elaine (Gary) Woodruff of Laingsburg, MI, stepson, Dennis (Lorna) Matthews of Corunna, MI, 4 step grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Millie Horak and Helen Perry, both of Florida, 2 brothers, Frank (Alice) Stasa of Bancroft, MI, Jim (Mary) Stasa of Swartz Creek, MI, also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Samson, sister, Hedy Wagner, and a brother, Jerry Stasa.
Memorials may be made to Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility Activities Department. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel.
