Mary Melrose

Mary Jane Melrose, age 85, of Stuart, FL and formerly of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at her daughter's home in Ionia, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 12:30 P.M. Pastor John R. Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday November 12, 2009 from 2-8 PM with family present 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Funeral Home.

Mary was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 18, 1924, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia (Dubek) Kayanek. She resided most of her life in Laingsburg, MI and Stuart Florida and attended Owosso Public Schools.

Mary married Warren Melrose in Owosso, MI. He passed away in December of 2000. Mary loved to hunt and fish. She also loved music especially gospel and bluegrass. She got her first whitetail buck on October 3, 2009 which made her very proud. Mary's faith was an important part of her life.

She is survived by her daughter Ruth and Robert Hummell of Ionia, MI, 2 sons; Gerald D. Melrose of Laingsburg, MI, John W. Melrose of Stuart, MI, 6 grandchildren; Cindi Rich, Wendy Berger, Jerry Melrose, Tim Melrose, Randy Redburn, Rachel Hummell, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Selva Jean and 6 sisters & brothers; Vivian Benko, Helen Rouse, Frank Kayanek, John Kayanek, Joe Kayanek, and Steve Kayanek.
