Mary was born in Nicholasville, Kentucky on October 10, 1929, the only daughter of Jefferson and Roberta (Overstreet) Ison. She was a graduate of Lincoln Institute of Kentucky, Lincoln Ridge, Kentucky, and later, moved to Lansing, Michigan to seek employment, where she met and married her husband, John "Jack" Walker. She performed secretarial work at the Detroiter Coach offices, before retiring to maintain a home for her husband and his ailing mother. Mary loved water colors and painted landscapes, recreationally, while serving as the Program Director for the local Art Guild for 16 years. She loved to travel the countryside to admire the beauty of nature and to tend the various species of flowers in the beds surrounding her home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Jefferson Ison, her mother, Roberta (Overstreet) Ison and her infant brother Charles Allen.

She is survived by her beloved husband, John "Jack" Walker, and several cousins; Ora Mae Mayes, Jewel Overstreet, Linda Franklin and especially, Rosalind and Bill Payne, who have been an intimate part of her life over the years. She has always been appreciative and grateful for the love of her nieces and nephews, through marriage; Vern Taylor, Jeanne (William) Kersey, David (Marlise) Taylor, Gary (Rossi) Taylor, Frank (Nancy) Walker, and especially Bob (Monika) Walker, who she looked upon as being her "son". Her great great nephew, Jacob Newberry was the joy of her life, as were his parents; Becca (Edward) Newberry and Laura Ann Walker, who she admired greatly. She also had a very special love for her "surrogate" daughter, Stephanie Jensen and her extended family.

She will be missed by a host of friends, whose friendship she accumulated over the years and who she learned to appreciate and to love more each year of her life. She was especially appreciative of the deep affection that she shared with her close friend, Lorna Sebring. The bond of these many friendships helped carry her through many of the rough spots of her illnesses and is worthy of this special "Thanks" to all.
