Mary Wingle age 93 of Ashley, Michigan died on November 25, 2006 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, Michigan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paula�(TM)s Apostle Catholic Church, Ithaca, Michigan on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be Monday, November 27, 2006 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Rosary will be prayed on Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Jules Spleet & Sister Margo Tafoya will officiate and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, Michigan.
Mary was born in Czechoslovakia on August 10, 1913 the daughter of Adolf& Maria (Manzelka) Valuch and resided most of her life in the Ashley area moving to this country when she was 16 years of age. She married Owen F. Wingle at St. Marya�(TM)s Catholic Church in Alma on January 6, 1933, Owen died August 11, 1977. She had formerly worked for the Ashley Public School as a cook & she had cooked for the University of Michigan Childrena�(TM)s Summer Camp and many school band camps. Mary was a member of St. Paula�(TM)s Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca, Michigan and was a volunteer for the Red Cross, a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club, and the Extension Club. Mary enjoyed embroidering, reading baking & cooking, she cooked for many weddings at the Slovak & ZCBJ Lodge and was famous for her fried chicken, cinnamon rolls and kolachies. In addition to her own family, she was an honorary grandmother to many people and received a lot of mail addressed simply to: "Grandma Wingle".
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Mary & Keith Peters of Ithaca, Michigan, Frances & Christopher Kimball of Redding, Connecticut, Sandi & Edward Daggett of Elsie, Michigan, 2 sons, Owen & Mary Ellen Wingle of Bannister, Michigan, Richard & Sally Wingle of Ashley, Michigan, 11 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, 2 grandsona�(TM)s 1 great grandson 3 sister & 1 brother. Memorial can be made to St. Paula�(TM)s Apostle Catholic Church, Ithaca, Michigan
