Matthew James "Matt" Nichols

     Matthew James Nichols, age 37 of Ovid, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

    Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Michigan, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 2:00-6:00 P.M. There will also be a Memorial Dinner at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Ovid VFW Hall.  Matt's family encourages visitors to bring any photos they would like to share and display, these photos will become cherished memories.

     Matthew was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 13, 1985, the son Harold James Nichols and Laura Lynn (Patrick) McGuire.  He was a graduate of Ovid Elsie High School with the class of 2004. 

     There are far too many good things to say about Matt; far too many words to describe him.  He could light up the darkest of rooms.  He loved spending time with his family and laughing with old friends about the memories they had.  When he wasn't doing that he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.  Matthew was a Jack of all trades.  He was one of the smartest people you knew.  He succeeded in his Electrical Career with United Electrical Contractors as a Journeyman Electrician.  He developed a family there.  He was a good man and an amazing father.  Matthew was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

     He is survived by his fiancée Justice Moniz of Ovid, MI; daughter Oakleigh Nichols; mother Laura McGuire of Ovid, MI; father Harold and Mary Nichols of Bannister, MI; sister Melissa and Ryan Kosloski of St. Johns, MI; sister Heather and Dustin Thelen of Elsie, MI; sister Stephanie Racine of West Virginia; brother Tim Deming of Bannister, MI; sister Savannah Hitchens of Ovid, MI; step-brother Frank and Courtney Galvin of Florida; step-brother Alex Kent and Zoey Felsman of Chesaning, MI; step-brother Trevor Kent of Clio, MI; grandmother Mary Nichols of Carland, MI; grandfather Robert Kirby of Weidman, MI.  Matt is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather Harold Nichols, grandfather James Patrick, and grandmother Linda Kirby.
