Max Capen

Max G. Capen age 83 of Wheeler, Michigan died July 30, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel St. Louis, MI on August 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Ron Woolsey will officiate with burial at Ridgelawn Cemetery Breckenridge, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2007 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Max was born in Lansing, Michigan on September 27, 1923 the son of Otis and Dora ( Wherry ) Capen. He attended Centerline School in Wheeler and Merrill Vocational. Max was drafted into the United States Army during WW II where he served in the 504th Parachute Infantry in the European Theatre of Operations (ETO), and was deployed as a member of the "GOYA" Special Operations in France. He served from February 12, 1943 until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1946.

Max married Francis C. Randall on July 12, 1947 at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Breckenridge. He worked at area businesses as a carpenter and electrical and plumbing technician. Max was also a musician and an avid golfer. He and Francis played in leagues at the North Star Golf Course and enjoyed golfing vacations. His life's greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren of whom he unsefishly loved.

He will be lovingly be remembered by his wife Francis Capen of Wheeler, MI, 2 sons; Bradly & Dorothy (Monroe) Capen of Breckenridge, MI, Max Timothy & Marcy (Dunn) Capen of Breckenridge, MI, 1 brother Jack & Evelyn Capen of Saginaw, MI, his twin sister Marbeth & Lyle Hynes of St. Johns, MI, 3 granddaughters; Christine & Clay Crumbaugh of St. Louis, MI, Sue & Ralph Prince of Lansing, MI, Jaimie Capen of Breckenridge, MI, 1 grandson Steven Capen of Mt. Pleasant, MI, 2 great grandsons; Kyle & Logan Crumbaugh, and 2 great granddaughters; Madelyn & Abigail Prince. He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers; Alex Capen and Gerald Capen, and 1 sister Gloria Horvat.
