Maxine Anna Pokorny, age 72, of Elsie, MI died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI.

Maxine was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1937, the daughter of Max and Dorothy (Ludwa) Courter. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1955, and resided most of her life in the Elsie area. On September 6, 1955 she married Rudolph Pokorny in Angola, Indiana. Maxine worked at Universal Electric in Owosso in her earlier years and, then she went to work as a nurses aid at Ovid Healthcare for 20 years retiring in 1995. She enjoyed making quilts; she enjoyed her flowers and gardening, and fishing. She also enjoyed polka music. She attended Alanon.

She is survived by her husband Rudolph Pokorny of Elsie, MI, daughter Marie Pokorny of Lansing, MI, 2 sons; Larry and Maggie Pokorny of Owosso, MI, Marvin Pokorny of Tennessee, 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 2 sisters; Pat and Bill Jorae of St. Johns, MI, Annette Smith of Indiana, and 2 brothers; Joseph and Diane Courter of Elsie, MI, Matthew and Sandy Courter of Indiana. She was predeceased by her parents.
