Maynard Peacock, age 95, of Saint Louis died Saturday, December 29, 2012. He was born on March 28, 1917 in St. Louis Michigan to DeEtta (Shaffer) and Arthur Peacock. He was number 6 of 11 children, and although not the youngest, and not the oldest, he was the last to die of the 11 children with names beginning with M.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, son John in 1971, son Paul in 2010, and 11 brothers and sisters. Surviving is his wife of almost 72 years, Bertha, son Dan (Kathy) of Kalamazoo, daughter Elizabeth (Grant) Tucker of Houston, TX, daughter-in-law Sharon of Brooklyn, grandchildren; Cammie, Dana, Derek, Tasha, and Jennifer, step grandchildren; Chuck, Sheryl, Kristy and Blake, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Maynard married Bertha Dickens on January 26, 1941. Maynard served in the US Navy during World War II, and served at the same time as five of his brothers. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in the class of 1935 as Salutatorian, and at the time of his death he had been retired for forty-two years from the US Post Office. He spent his life as the Spirit of Saint Louis and in service to the United Methodist Church, and will be remembered by all that he served as a guiding light and foundation of peaceful living.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on January 2, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Saint Louis with Pastor Terri Bentley officiating.
