Mearl Ione Kindel, age 96, of Elsie, MI died Saturday, March 17th, 2012 at Grace Haven Assisted Living in St. Johns, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at East Washington United Brethren Church Ashley, MI on Wednesday, March 21st at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Jerry Drummond will officiate. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 2:00-7:30 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Johns Chapel St. Johns, MI.

Mearl was born in Ashley, Michigan on June 21, 1915, the daughter of Fred Charles and Hazel Kirk (Gruesbeck) Kellogg. She married L.C. Kindel in Ashley, MI on March 28, 1937 and he preceded her in death on January 10, 2011 after nearly 74 years of marriage.

Mearl was a member of East Washington United Brethren Church, Ashley, MI where she served as the church organist for many years. She also was a member of the Singing Grandmothers Trio for several years.

She is survived by son, Richard and Barbara Kindel of Goshen, IN; daughter, Kathleen and Walter Kinsey of Brant, MI; son, Larry and Cindy Kindel of St. Johns, MI; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Her family was very important to Mearl.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mearl was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Ann Kindel, sister, Marion Roland.

Memorials may be made to East Washington United Brethren Church.
