Melinda Morgan

Melinda Belle Morgan, age 84, of Ovid, MI passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Sparrow Health Systems Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at the United Church of Ovid on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Robert Nystrom officiating.  Burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, MI.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI.

Melinda was born in Merriweather, Michigan on October 8, 1931, the daughter of Lloyd and Bertha (Ahonen) Cook.  She graduated from Bergland High School with the class of 1949.  She lived in Merriweather, Michigan before moving to Ovid after graduation.  On November 25, 1950 Melinda married Max Morgan in Ovid, Michigan by the Justice of the Peace. Max predeceased her in 1994.  Melinda was a homemaker and enjoyed ceramics, sewing and baking. She was a Boy and Girl Scout Leader, she helped with JOBS Daughters.  Melinda helped at the Ovid Convalescent Center with the activities. Her Jack Russell, Sassy was important to her and she enjoyed her very much; she had to give her to a cousin this past August.  She loved to take summer trips to the U.P. to see her relatives, and she enjoyed playing cribbage and playing bingo.  Melinda was a member of the United Church of Ovid and enjoyed helping at the church and folding bulletins.

She is survived by her daughter Linda and Grant Palen of Elsie, MI, son Glenn and Joan Morgan of Whitehall, MI, daughter in law Janet Morgan of Owosso, MI, son in law Tom Cerny of Elsie, MI, grandchildren; Shad and Janelle Morgan, Scott Cerny, Cari and Josh Chadwick, Charlie Palen and fiancée, Jewel Blackmon, Morgan Palen, great grandchildren; Mallory & Mia Morgan, Gavin & Alexis Chadwick, sister Marie Herbert, brother William Cook Sr., and sister in law Leola (Ducky) Cook.  She was predeceased by her parents, daughter Deborah Cerny, son Jerry "Animal" Morgan, grandson Sean Cerny, sister Beverly Collins, and brother Lloyd "John" Cook Jr.
