Melvin E. Lohrer, age 79, of Ithaca, Michigan died Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI on Wednesday, December 16th at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Steve Lang will officiate. Burial will take place at Union Home Cemetery, Clinton County, Michigan.

Visitation will be held on Monday 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 2-8 p.m. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI.

Melvin was born in Ashley, Michigan on October 23, 1930, the son of Eugene Alva and Florence Amanda (Coleman) Lohrer. He resided most of his life in Gratiot County, Michigan and he served his country in the US Army in the Military Police during the Korean War. Melvin was married to Marilyn June (Fisk) Miller on January 1, 1972 at the Seville Church of God.

He worked for Fisher Body in Lansing for 33 years, retiring 1985. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and the outdoors, he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends visiting. He was a member of the Ithaca VFW Post.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Lohrer of Ithaca, MI; 2 daughters Dorene and Gary Barthlow of Alma, MI. Louise Lohrer of Ithaca, MI; 2 sons Robert and Nancy Lohrer of Orleans, MI, William and Robin Lohrer of Perrinton, MI; 11 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren, 8 step children and many step grand children. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 son, Gary, 1 grandson, Joshua, 3 sisters Phyllis & Betty & Garnett. Memorials Charity of the donora�(TM)s choice.
