Melvin Stauffer

Melvin Royce "Mel" Stauffer age 89 of DeWitt, MI passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. with Mr. Greg Stauffer officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Richland Township Cemetery, Vestaburg, MI.

Melvin was born in Richland Township, MI on June 10, 1928 the son of Harold and Dorothy (Brundage) Stauffer.  Mel married Alberta Virene Fralick on June 7, 1952 in Greenville, MI. Alberta passed away December 5, 2005. Mel served his country in the US Army, and attended Central Michigan University.

Spending time with his grandchildren brought him great joy.  He also loved spending time at the lake in his trailer which was part of the old homestead.  Mel was a co-owner of Lansing Electric Motors.  He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years.  Mel loved his garden and was a hobby farmer. Mel resided most of his life in DeWitt

He is survived by his daughter Linda Romero of Fowlerville, MI, 3 sons; Tom Stauffer of Pinckney, MI, Dan Stauffer of Seattle, WA, Jeff and Suzanna Stauffer of DeWitt, MI, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and sister Shirley Blair of Phoenix, AZ.  Mel was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Richard Stauffer and 2 brothers; Gene and Keith Stauffer.
