Melvin S. Vincent, age 67, of Morrice, MI and formerly of Owosso, MI, went to be with his Lord Friday, February 12, 2010 at Memorial Healthcare, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at the Perry Church of the Nazarene on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 1:00 pm; Pastor Tim Harmon will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 and Tuesday, February 16, 2010 from 2-8 pm with family present 2-4 and 6-8 pm both days at the Funeral Home.
Melvin was born in Owosso, Michigan on July 14, 1942, the son of Silven Eugene and Geraldine Pearl (Malkin) Vincent. He attended the Owosso Academy of Owosso College and resided in Shiawassee County his entire life. Mel married Mary I. Kidd on March 23, 1963 in Owosso.
Mel began working for Jennings-Lyons Funeral Chapel while attending high school. He also worked at Redmonds for 5 years, Mitchell-Bentley for 3 years. Mel began working full-time for Jennings-Lyons on July 1, 1971 and continued in service to the community there until the summer of 2007. He was a member of the Perry Church of the Nazarene where he was actively serving as a board member, usher, greeter and counter. Mel was also a board member of the Salvation Army and the YMCA. He was a charter member of the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club serving as past President, Secretary and board member. Mel enjoyed hobbies that allowed him to spend time with his family, such as gardening, birding, playing table games, trac-ball with his son, and camping trips with his wife and granddaughters.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary I. Vincent of Morrice, MI; son Phillip and Tina Vincent of Kirkland, WA; granddaughters Leslie Vincent of Kirkland, WA and Ashley and Brennan Westerman of Delta, BC; mother-in-law Marie Kidd of Milford, OH; brother-in-law Dennis and Cindy Kidd of Milford, OH; nieces Candice and Jenna.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Jesse Kidd, granddaughter Rebecca, and also his sister Lois.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry Church of the Nazarene Building Fund. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, Michigan.
