Merton Wing

Merton L. "Mert" Wing, age 82, of Corunna, MI went to be with the Lord Friday, July 27, 2012 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Owosso, MI on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Douglas Osborn will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 29, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. with a Masonic Service to be held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will also be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI. .

Merton was born in Owosso, Michigan on November 18, 1929, the son of Robert R. and Hattie May (Decker) Wing. He was a graduate of Owosso High School and resided most of his life in Owosso and Corunna. Mert and Mary were married on September 1, 1978 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Owosso.

Mert was a member of the Masonic Lodge #81 F&AM for 60 years and joined the Kiwanis Club of Owosso on September 11, 1979. He was active with the Shiawassee County Historical Society, taking part in many different renovations, including helping to restore the County Farm Cemetery. Mert worked for many years in automotive parts sales and later was part owner of Shapiro Automotive in Owosso. He also was employed by Owosso Public Schools as a Maintenance Supervisor. Mert was very fond of spending time at his cabin up north. He served his country in the U.S. Army and always remained patriotic. Mert held a great appreciation toward all service men and women. His family was of the utmost importance to him. Mert will be remembered for his love of people and gift of conversation. Mert was a long time and valued employee of Jennings-Lyons Chapel.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary Wing of Corunna, MI; 4 children Sandi Rae (Mark) Dodd of Heath, OH, David E. (Becky) Brown of Jackson, MI, Donald J. Brown of Owosso, MI, Mark D. (Melissa) Brown of Virginia Beach, VA;
10 grandchildren Alicia (Shawn) Carpenter, Carrie (Clint Drinkard) Wing, Ben (Christina) Dodd, Sam Dodd, Grace Dodd, Joel Dodd, Greg (Chelsea) Brown, Josh Crabtree, Katie Brown, Heather Brown; 4 great -grandchildren Kayla Drinkard, Nathan Carpenter, Jesse Dumond, Justin Dumond; brother Charles (Nancy) Wing; 2 sisters Virginia (Robert) Parks, Phyllis (Gordon) Brown; 4 sisters-in-law Alma Wing, Dorothy Wing, Theresa Wing, Phyllis (Jim) Fox; brother-in-law Ellis Gregory; special friends Terry (Dana) Dumond and many nieces and nephews.

Mert was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Maxine C. Wing; great-granddaughter Katelynn Dodd; brothers Elmer (Doretta) Wing, Ervin Wing, Lloyd Wing, Clifford Wing; sister Audrey (Raymond) Hoddy.
