Michael Stambersky, age 87, of Bannister, Michigan, died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M., Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel.
Michael was born in Elsie, Michigan on May 17, 1922, the son of Edwin and Frances (Vonacek) Stambersky. On October 25, 1947 he married Wilma Cerny in Bannister, Michigan. Mike retired from Fisher Body in Lansing in 1977 after 32 years of service. He loved to work in the garden and flowers. Mike enjoyed dancing polkas with his wife and riding his bicycling around Bannister. He also enjoyed bird hunting, cutting wood and he took great pride in taking care of the Bannister Veterans Monument. He was the former caretaker of the ZCBJ Hall for 35 years. He lived in the Bannister & Elsie area all of his life. Mike served his country in the US Army during WW II and was a member of the VFW Post, Fowler, and the ZCBJ Lodge #225 Bannister, Michigan.
Survivors include his wife Wilma Stambersky of Bannister, Michigan, 2 sons; Gary and Ginny Stambersky, Michael L. Stambersky, 4 grandchildren; Susan and Kevin Dittrich, Mark Stambersky and Teresa Mulder, Jason and Hollie Stambersky, Holli Luznak, 5 great grandchildren; Jordan, Kayla, Madalin, Sophia, Ruby, 1 sister Mary and Ervin Hillborn, and 1 brother Stanley and Florence Stambersky. Mike was predeceased by his parents, and 8 brothers.
