Mildred Emeline Evans, age 79, of Bannister, MI passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Ashley Care Center.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Jerry Drummond will officiate. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI.
Visitation will be held on Monday November 9, 2009 from 6-8 PM and Tuesday November 10, 2009 from 2-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, MI. .
Mildred was born in Bannister, Michigan on October 25, 1930, the daughter of James Grant and Ethel (Sanford) Bishop. Mildred resided most of her life in Bannister area and was a graduate of Elsie High School class of 1948.
Mildred married Harry Evans on June 15, 1951 at the home of her parents in Bannister. Harry passed away March 1, 1988. She attended the East Washington United Brethren Church Ashley, MI
Mildred was very active in her church work, bible studies and was very supportive of several different missions. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Mildred loved to read and enjoyed 'going anywhere in a book'. Mildred and Harry were foster parents and had 16 foster children over the years. She found joy in spending time outdoors and was active in 4-H horse shows with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Ellen Haynes of Ithaca, MI; 2 sons David and Christina Evans of Cadillac, MI; Mark and Amanda Evans of Weedville, PA; 6 grandchildren Robin and Patrick Cordray of Ashley, MI, Amanda and Ben Swinson of Midland, MI, Eric and Leah Evans of Elsie, MI, Justin and Amy Evans of Ovid, MI, Alicia and Clayton Glassinger of Chicago, IL, Steven Evans of southern Michigan; 3 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Martha and Paul Schulz of Bannister, MI.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband also 3 sisters.
