Mildred C. “Millie” Scranton died Monday, January 12, 2009, at the age of 93. She was born in Tittabawassee Township in Saginaw County, Michigan on January 4, 1916, the daughter of Jay and Helena (Forster) Hemingway. She lived in Baldwin, Michigan before moving to St. Johns in 1998. Millie was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Baldwin. She married Harry Scranton July 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death February 22, 1998.
Millie is survived by two sons, Terry (Linda) Scranton of Rogers City and Jon (Lois) Scranton of St. Johns; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Gloria Hemingway of Saginaw. In addition to her husband, Millie was preceded in death by two sisters, Winifred Hemingway and Virginia Foss and two brothers, Clinton and James Hemingway.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 with Rev. George Brinley officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Senior Center or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.
