Murl Homister

Murl C. Homister, age 96, of St. Louis, MI died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Louis First Church of God on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Randall Mead will officiate, and burial will take place at Chapel Garden Cemetery in Seville Township, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.

Murl was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on January 30, 1913, the son of Sherman and Blanche (Andrew) Homister. He was married to Helen Keck on October 30, 1934. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1991. Murl was a lifelong resident of St. Louis, and retired from Michigan Chemical Plant in 1975, after 23 years of service. He was also a crossing guard for 22 years for St. Louis Schools. Murl loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He loved his church, and was a member of the St. Louis Church of God since 1953.

He is survived by 2 sons; Glen and Nancy Homister of White Cloud, MI, Howard and Barbara Homister of Mt. Pleasant, MI, 2 daughters; Joyce Smith of Lansing, MI, Lucille Garza of St. Louis, MI, a daughter in law Connie Homister of St. Louis, MI, 22 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 26 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, daughter Norma Jean Holly in 1980, son Carl Homister in 2006, grandson Howard Leroy Homister in 1973, granddaughter Deborah Eager in 2002, 2 great grandsons; Chad Curlin McCormick in 1995, Brent Carl Beechler in 2005, a brother Bill Brandall, and a sister Norma Whightsil.
