Nancy Decker

Nancy Barbara Decker, age 84, of North Star, MI, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Schnepp Health Care Center, St. Louis.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, with Pastor Lon Cook officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Nancy was born in Elba Township, Michigan on January 20, 1935, the daughter of Joseph and Anna E. (Chvojka) Chapko. She graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1953. Nancy married Leo Elmer Decker on November 8, 1958, at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister, MI; Leo passed away on June 22, 2007. Nancy and Leo resided most of their adult life in Florida until moving back to Michigan in 2006.

Nancy worked at Redman's in Ithaca after high school until the factory in Ashley opened; she was a welder at both. Shortly after that she worked as a CNA at Ashley Care Center for many years. Nancy also volunteered at a local school in St. Pete, FL.

Nancy enjoyed bingo, playing cards and word search puzzles. She looked forward to camping with her family and spending time on the boat. She liked attending flea markets, auction sales and being around people. Time spent with her family was very important to her. She was a member of the First Catholic Ladies Association.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Vivian and Jeffrey Ringle of Harrison, MI, Suzan and Doug Capen of North Star, MI, son-in-law Klaus Hermann of Downingtown, PA, sister Dorothy Rosekrans of St. Johns, MI, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and one great-great grandson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, and daughter Pamla Decker Hermann in 1999.
