Neil Creer

Neil Aubrey Creer age 91 of East Lansing, Michigan formerly of Owosso, Michigan died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel Owosso, MI on Friday, January 25, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Edwin Snook will officiate with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.

Neil was born in Owosso, Michigan on January 3, 1917 the son of Colonel Newton and Lena Estelle ( McLucas ) Creer. He resided most of his life in Owosso, Michigan and graduated from Owosso High School. Neil married Joyce Jean Champenoy. He retired from the State of Michigan where he was a Youth Worker at the Maxey Boys Training School in Whitmore Lake, MI. He also formerly owned the G&N Hardware in Owosso. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Neil was a good fast pitch softball player from 1937-1938. He pitched for the Robbins Furniture Store, Montgomery Ward, and Universal Electric as well as various other teams. Neil pitched several no-hitters. Neil served in the Army Air Corp during WWII.

He is survived by his daughter Jean Lynn Creer-Young & William Young of East Lansing, MI, son Jere Creer of Midland, MI, grandchildren; Shawnya Williams, Michael & Tonisha Wheeker, Amanda Wheeker, Elizabeth Young, great grandchildren; Jocelyn Wheeker, Brandon Graham, II, Taylor Jackson, Kendall Jackson, Kelly Jackson, Shaniah Williams, Kyleighana Young, brother Edward & Louise Creer of California, sister Joyce English of Owosso, MI, and several nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, grandson Daniel Wheeker, brother Joseph Creer, and sister Ellen Richards.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Charity of Donor's Choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.
