Nile R. Allen, age 99, of Ithaca, MI died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Gratiot County, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at First United Methodist Church Ithaca, MI on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Dave McBride and Pastor Steven Young will officiate with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery Emerson Township, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI. A Masonic Service will be at 5:00 P.M. Sunday at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel Ithaca, MI.
Nile was born in Emerson Township, Michigan on February 13, 1909, the son Percy C. and Iva (Rasor) Allen. He resided all his life in Emerson Township, Gratiot County, MI. He attended Allen Country School and graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1927. Nile married Fern Clark on June 11, 1936 at the Ithaca Methodist Parsonage. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, he served as Emerson Township Clerk for a number of years, and he won several awards for growing sugar beets thru Michigan Sugar. Nile farmed his property in Emerson Township all his life until he retired in 1974. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing. Nile enjoyed woodworking and made several turkey calls and loved to give them to people. He enjoyed going to his cottage in Houghton Lake and fishing there. Nile and Fern spent several years wintering in Ft. Meyers, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with and keeping up with all the grandchildren and their birthdays.
He is survived by 4 daughters Sharon and Mel Kapral of Ithaca, MI, Linda and George Weburg of Ithaca, MI, Connie and Lou Benventivegna of Altamonte Springs, FL, Jane and Gary McKenzie of Wyoming, MN, grandchildren; Karie and Tom Chesebro, Mark and Carrie Kapral, Jennifer and Nate Simpson, Jeff and Amber Weburg, James and Alisha Weburg, Jay and Teri McWilliams, Steven and Cindy McWilliams, Jodi and Dan Zemke, Chad and Lisa McKenzie, 26 great grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law Margaret Jane Allen, Doris Riddle and several nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, 1 granddaughter Kami and 2 brothers: Parks & Vere.
