Nina Davis

Nina Moss Davis, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Sunday morning, October 14, 2007, with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Living Hope Free Methodist Church, St. Louis, MI. Rev. Dave Jewell will officiate with burial at Fairview Cemetery, Manistique, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel and Wednesday October 17, 2007 at the church from noon until the time of service at 2:00 P.M.
Nina was born in Ashville, North Carolina to Robert and Edna (McCarson) Moss on July 24, 1925. In 1928, her family moved to Wyandotte, Michigan. In her youth, Nina was an active member of the Lincoln Park Free Methodist Church, won the (Detroit) district-wide spelling bee two years in a row, and graduated Roosevelt High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1942.
During World War II, Nina inspected B-24 bombers at the Willow Run aircraft plant. Shortly afterward, she attended Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois, majoring in chemistry and biology, and graduating cum laude in 1948. While there, she met and married Oliver Davis on August 26, 1947. Though she had dreams of going to medical school after college, her calling lead her to be a mother, pastora(TM)s wife, church music director, and a teacher in the public schools. She taught public school in Luce County, Michigan; Junction City, Kentucky; Parksville, Kentucky; and Boyne City, Michigan.
Throughout her life, Nina was interested in music. She played the cello, violin, and piano and sang in many choirs. Her life-long pursuit of education continued when she attended music classes at Central Michigan University and Alma College during her retirement years. Her study of music was one of her greatest joys in life. Nina shared her joy of music, her value of education, many other interests, and her pleasant sense of humor with her children and friends. She will be missed dearly.
Nina is survived by her loving children and husband of 60 years, Oliver Orville Davis; daughter, Ann (husband, John Shaver); son, James (wife, Diane Davis); son, John (wife, Leslie Davis); son, Paul (wife, Cheryl Davis); daughter, Joy (husband, Cecil Martin); daughter, Janice (husband, Kenneth Schroeder); and her grandchildren: Nicholas Shaver; Joanna, Michael, and Stephen Davis; and Christopher and Gregory Schroeder. Nina is also survived by a sister, Gerrie Delvecchio, and a brother, Caesar (Sonny) Moss.
Memorials may be made to the International Child Care Ministries, P.O. Box 535002, Indianapolis, IN 46253-5002. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
