Opal Howard

Opal Eliza Howard, age 91, of Mason, MI died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Jeffery Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

Opal was born in Boyne City, Michigan on November 24, 1918, the daughter of Freeman and Ida Mae Sparks. She was the widow of Harvey "Gene" Howard. They were married Sept. 18, 1937 in Owosso, MI, and he passed away August 23, 2008. Opal was a lifelong resident of the Owosso area. She had worked at Midwest Abrasives in Owosso. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and was a Detroit Tigers fan. Opal loved spending time with her grandchildren, and had a love of history, especially Michigan history. She loved traveling to Northern Michigan. She was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church in Holt, MI.

She is survived by her 2 daughters; Beverly Vogan of Mason, MI, Mary Vincent of Owosso, MI, daughter in law Judy Arntson-Howard of East Lansing, MI, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, and special friends Leota Adams of Owosso, MI, Billy Svatik of Owosso, MI, and Vivian Cross of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Michael Howard, 2 son in laws Leon and James, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
