Oscar Ornelas

Oscar J. "Oz" Ornelas age 89, of Elsie, MI, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Elsie Baptist Church, Elsie, MI, on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., with Pastor Ralph Parkin officiating.  Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI.

Oscar was born in Ithaca, Michigan on May 26, 1927, the son of Edward and Mary (Luna) Ornelas.  He graduated from Ithaca High School, and on December 23, 1972 he married Dorothy G. Smith.  Oscar retired from MMPA after 42 years of service.  He enjoyed playing golf for many years, and achieved a hole in one at North Star Golf Course in 1971.  He enjoyed camping and his children, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  Oscar was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Ornelas of Elsie, MI, 2 daughters; Sheryl and Victor Carbone of Maryland, Julie and Lane Terrell of Portage, MI, 4 sons; Terry and Toni Ornelas of Elsie, MI, John and Tammy Ornelas of Hudsonville, MI, Robert Frye Jr. of Holt, MI, Roger Frye of Lansing, MI, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 sisters; Anita Kiter of Owosso, MI, Josephine "Joey" Sheldon of Owosso, MI, Emma Gordoa of Glendale, AZ, and Rosemary Ornelas of Ovid, MI.  He was predeceased by his parents, 1 sister Helen, and 3 brothers; Edward, Alfred & Eliseo.
