Owen D. Wingle, age 76, of Bannister, Michigan peacefully passed from this earth to his eternal home on Sunday, December 29, 2013. His hard fought battle with Parkinson disease has ended.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, MI on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Rick Bokinskie officiating. Burial will follow at Ford Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 2-8 P.M., with a Parish Scripture Service held at 7:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.
Owen was born in Ashley, Michigan on November 8, 1937, the son of Owen F. and Mary (Valuch) Wingle. He lived his whole life in the Ashley, Bannister area and graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1956. Owen married Mary Ellen Vanek on September 3, 1960 in Ithaca, Michigan. Owen had worked for Midland Brake in Owosso for 32 years and later was employed by Sam Smith of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Owen enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, restoring antique tractors, listening to polkas, as well as a good game of cards. He was a member of St. Cyril Catholic Church, ZCBJ Lodge, and was past president and secretary of the Ashley Lions Club for several years. He took special pride in his family and will be remembered for his quick wit, being a prankster, and making people laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen Wingle of Lansing, MI, son Craig and Sally Wingle of Jackson, MI, grandchildren; Christopher and Rachael Wingle of Leslie, MI, Amanda Wingle of South Korea, great granddaughter Lembi Wingle of Leslie, MI, 1 brother Richard Wingle of Ashley, MI, 3 sisters; Mary and Keith Peters of Ithaca, MI, Frances and Christopher Kimball of Redding, CT, Sandra and Edward Daggett of Elsie, MI, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and 2 sons; Tim Wingle on January 2, 1982 and Mark Wingle on April 22, 1990.
