Patrick Ackels

Patrick B. Ackels age 52, of Ovid, MI passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10:00 A.M.,  with Mr. Everett Smith officiating.  Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI.

Pat was born in St. Johns, MI on May 4, 1965, the son of Hazel Harriett (Ackels) Grinnell. He gradated from Ovid - Elsie High School with the class of 1983.

Pat owned and operated the Bannister Bar and Grill and The Shed in Marion Springs. He enjoyed coaching basketball, playing golf and his bull dog Barkley. He also enjoyed giving back to the community. He believed in people and helped in making their lives better. Pat was serving his community on the city council for the City of Ovid and he was a meat cutter for many years.

He is survived by his daughter Lindsey Ackels of Grand Rapids, MI; Lindsey's mother, Amy Dickenson of Lansing, MI, companion Darlene Medore of Ovid, MI, brothers; Walter and Maureen Ackels of Saint Louis, MO, Paul Ackels of Florida, stepfather Richard Grinnell, of Ovid, MI, step brothers and sisters; Paul Grinnell of Ovid, MI, Paullett and Ron VanLake of Bannister, MI, and Penny Grinnell of Ovid, MI.  He was preceded in death by his mother Hazel, sister Philis Bukovcik, and step brother John Grinnell.
