Paul Jones
On Friday, January 25, 2008, Paul E. Jones, a lifelong resident of Chapin, passed away at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso, Michigan after a brief illness. He was 86 years of age.
Paul was born in Elsie, Michigan, on November 12, 1921, to Glenn & Clara (Menter) Jones. He married Frances Somers on August 21, 1943, in Chapin, Michigan. She predeceased him on May 29, 2003. Paul was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church in Chapin, Michigan.
Over his lifetime, Paul owned and operated the Chapin General Store, he was a farmer, and was a livestock hauler and dealer. He was also a co-owner of the Owosso Livestock Sales Company for over 20 years.
An avid sportsman, Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over a 12-year period, he also served as a Little League, Babe Ruth League and American Legion baseball coach.
Four children survive Paul—Lois & Jerry Boone of Chapin, Kay & Elmer Clapp of Dawson, N.D., R.J. Jones of Durand, and L.D. Jones of Ithaca. Also surviving him are 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, sisters-in-law Betty McQuiston and Christine Somers, brother-in-law Dr. George & Joyce Somers, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances, parents Clara (Somers) and Glenn Menter, step-father Jay Somers, sister Helen Fink, step-brother Lyle Somers, brothers-in-law Harold Fink and Clifford McQuiston, nephew Glenn Fink, and great-granddaughter Mayna Tufte.
Visitation will be Monday, January 28, 2008 from 5-8 P.M., and Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 5-8 P.M. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Herb Wheelock officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan.
Memorials may be made to the Chapin United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
