Pauline Sophia Hanus, age 94, of Ashley, MI died Friday, March 14th, 2014 at Ashley Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, MI on Tuesday, March 18th at 10:00 A.M., Rev. Fr. Rick Bokinskie will officiate. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014, 3-6 P.M. and Monday, March 17, 2014, 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI. A Scripture Service will be held on 7:00 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Pauline was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on November 23, 1919, the daughter of Paul and Anna (Tatka) Pjontek.
On May 21, 1938 she married Joseph Steve Hanus at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, after 52 years of marriage. Joe died on October 26, 1990. She and Joe spent many winters in Florida. She had resided most of her life in the Ashley and Elsie area. Pauline, along with her husband was very involved in their family farms. Pauline enjoyed gardening, painting, sewing, and she was fond of watching birds.
She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church Bannister, Michigan all of her life and was a member of the church choir in her youth. She was also a member of the Alter Society and helped with most church projects.
She is survived by her son, Phillip and Sheila Hanus of Ashley, MI; 3 daughters, Nancy and Mike Bancroft of Coconut Creek, FL; Jeanne and Greg Bragden of East Lansing, MI; Linda and Leonard Byrne of La Crosse, WI; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 sons, Gerald and Douglas, 5 sisters, Mary Pjontek, Sophia Stambersky, Julia Shocknesse, Rose Viles and her twin sister Anna Kristin, 4 brothers, John, Joe, Paul and Emil.
