Philo Defever

Philo Josephene Defever age 78 of Corunna, MI went to be with her Lord and Blessed Virgin Mary on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. She is beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who came in contact with her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church Owosso, MI on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 9:30 A.M. Rev. Fr. John Fain will officiate with burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Corunna, MI. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 6-8 P.M. and on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Corunna Chapel, Corunna, MI. Rosary will be prayed on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Philo was born in Braine L'Alleud, Belgium near Brussels on April 5, 1930, the third child of Gustaaf and Justine (Hannaert) Debremacker. She attended schools in Belgium and worked in Brussels as a seamstress. After marrying her husband Herve Defever in Belgium, they departed on the Queen Mary and arrived in the United States on March 12, 1956. She resided most of her life on the family's Corunna farm. Philo was well known as an expert seamstress and she worked several years for Corunna Public Schools as a "playground lady". She cherished her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was also a 4-H leader for sewing, cooking, and gardening clubs.

She is survived by her husband Herve Defever of Corunna, MI, 3 daughters; Anne Defever of Owosso, MI, Ingrid and Tom Schwab of Haslett, MI, Nancy and Victor Loomis of East Lansing, MI, 1 son Frank and Janet Defever of Alma, MI, grandchildren; Chelsea Durgan, Olivia Edgar Alison Durgan, Justine Defever, Landon Defever, Tommie Schwab, Elaine Loomis and Angela Loomis, and additional member of the family Jim Walter. Her family resides in Belgium and are as follows, sisters; Ida and Gaston Demol, Marie VanLancker, Susan and John Vanderdonekl, Paula Derauw, Jeanne and Pierre Demol and brother Pierrot and Bertha Debremacker. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Francis, and sister Martha.
