Retha May Capen age 86 of Greenfield, Indiana formerly of Brady Township, Michigan died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at Brandywine Health Care, Greenfield, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Billie Lou Gillespie-Brown will officiate with burial at Ridge Road Cemetery, Brady Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Retha was born in Saginaw County, Michigan on October 28, 1918 the daughter of Edward & Mary ( Cunningham ) Spiegel. She was a lifelong resident of the Oakley area before moving to Florida in 1987. Retha married Stanley Capen on December 5, 1936 in Chesaning, Michigan. He died August 1986. She worked at Owosso Memorial Healthcare for many years as a dietary assistant. She loved crafting, knitting, playing cards and games and enjoyed watching sports. Retha attended Chapin United Methodist Church and she was a 50 year member of Elsie Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son Ronald & Patricia Capen of Greenfield, IN, 4 grandchildren; Scott & Emily Capen of Greenfield, IN, Cindy & Mark Richmond of Greenfield, IN, Andrew & Katherine Capen of Greenfield, IN, Tim & Stephanie Capen of Greenfield, IN, 6 great grandchildren; Travis, Matthew, Trisha, Tiffany, Nathan, Nicholas, & several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
Memorials may be made to Chapin United Methodist Church or Brandywine Healthcare Memorial Garden, 745 N. Swope St., Greenfield, IN. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
