Retha Elizabeth Day, age 93, of Elsie, MI passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at her home.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Mona Kindel and Pastor Fred Fisher officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Retha was born in Elsie, Michigan on August 1, 1919, the daughter of Roy E. and Bessie Elizabeth (Dunham) Warner. She graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1937. On September 27, 1947, Retha married George H. Day in Bryan, Ohio. They were married for 65 years. During that time, she worked for Oldsmobile. After retiring, Retha devoted the next fifty years to being a homemaker; she was happiest in her home with her family around her. Baking for her family was one of her greatest joys. She was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church.
Retha is survived by her sisters, Erma Warner and Leota Kajdas. She is also survived by her special nieces and nephews, Ron Kajdas, Susan (Kajdas) & Dr. Robert Peterson, Diane (Kajdas) & Dr. Douglas Saylor, Dawn Kajdas and Robert & Cathy Warner; her great nieces & nephews, Kristi (Peterson) & Dr. Ryan Brunworth, Kevin & Lisa Peterson, Sara (Peterson) & Danny VanDewater, Paul Peterson, Cory Sheldon, Erin (Saylor) & Matt Ryan, Douglas Saylor, Tammie (Johnston) & Tom Wolfe, Joe & Jenny Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston, Nicole and Rachel Warner; and great great nieces and nephews, Mason, Brady and Logan Brunworth, Lauren & Kelsey Peterson, Malin Ryan, baby boy VanDewater (due in August), Samantha & Melissa Wolfe and Finnegan & Morgan Johnston. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her father, Roy Warner; her parents, Asa & Bessie (Dunham) Stewart; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Doris Warner; her brother-in-law, Stanley Kajdas; and her niece, Barbara Johnston.
