Rev. Alfred "Dale" Denison, age 75, of Ithaca, MI went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot in Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Joe Pendleton officiating. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday February 21, 2014 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Dale was born in Steuben County, Indiana on November 29, 1938, the son of Vern and Esther (Grate) Denison. He graduated from Salem Center High School in Indiana, and Spring Arbor College with Bachelor Degrees in Religion, Elementary Education, and Social Science. He married Nancy Elaine Hartley on December 30, 1961 in Parma, Michigan. Dale also proudly served in the U.S. Army. Dale has resided in North Star for the past 14 years. Prior to that, he had resided in Steuben County, IN, Parma, MI; Ogden, IA; and Kingsley, MI. He was a retired Free Methodist Pastor, serving in Ogden, IA and Kingsley, MI. He loved golfing, vegetable gardening, and was an avid collector. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. Dale loved Purdue University sports. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was their #1 fan in anything they participated in. Dale was a generous, kind hearted man, and loved his family dearly. He attended Bethel Mennonite Church in Ashley, MI.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Denison of Ithaca, MI, daughter Martha and Duane Bontrager of Ashley, MI, son Andrew and Colleen Denison of Dearborn, MI, daughter Tina and Gerald Dwyer of Shurdan, IA, daughter Ann Denison of Royal Oak, MI, 5 grandchildren; Ryan Denison, Leah Bontrager, Amelia Denison, Seth Denison, Ben Bontrager, half sister Katherine Trattles of Three Rivers, MI, half brother Ralph Randall of Ashley, IN, sister Mary Crawford of Fremont, IN, and sister Judy Hart of Kendallville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son David Dale Denison, a brother, and a sister.
