Rex Maynard Coleman, age 76, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Midland, MI.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Tom Whitesell officiating.  Burial will take place at the Ithaca Cemetery.

Rex was born in Alma, MI on October 9, 1943, the son of Donald and Virginia (Valentine) Coleman. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1962.  Rex proudly served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard until 1972.

Rex worked for General Motors August 1966 - September 1967 when he left to go full-time at the Alma National Guard Armory until 1972. Rex served as the Personnel/PR Director for Gratiot Community Hospital 1972-1977. He then went back to GM in August of 1977 until he became disabled in 1991.

Rex was a member of Children's International for many years and supported many children throughout their teen lives in Guatemala.  He was also proud of his time as a Big Brother and being honored as the Big Brother of Gratiot County in 1975.

Rex was an avid Ithaca Yellowjackets fan.  He looked forward to attending football and basketball games.  He was especially proud of the honor of being named the "Gridiron Gurus of the Week" in 2011.  Rex also enjoyed being a part of the Tuesday Morning Guys' Coffee Club at McDonalds.

Rex is survived by his brother Dick (Geraldine) Coleman of Ithaca, MI; sister Nancy Sisco of Alma, MI; and many nieces and nephews.   Rex was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Virginia Coleman and oldest sister Nadallas Coleman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics of Michigan.  Online condolences can be left at www.smithfamilyfuneralhomes.com. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI.
