Richard R. Avery

     Richard R. Avery, age 75, of Perrinton, MI, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, surrounded by his family at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, MI.

     A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 17, 2023.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

     Richard was born in Alma, Michigan on March 6, 1948, the son of Albert and Mildred (Nisonger) Avery. Richard married Kathleen Miller on August 31, 1973, at Church of Daniels Band in Midland, MI. 

     Rich retired from General Motors in 1997. In younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.  He also was an avid bowler and bowled many 300 games. Rich looked forward to his daily scratch off tickets, car rides looking for deer, trips to the casino and monthly card party/potluck dinners with his siblings. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

     He is survived by his wife Kathleen Avery; children: Randy and Tonya Avery, Rick and Jen Avery, Jeremy and Ron Avery, Kim and Josh McKinley, and Lisa Powell; and ten grandchildren: Peyton, Jasmyn, Katie, Chloe, Leighara, Leighora, Reagan, Avery, Gracie, and Ella. He is also survived by his siblings: Rose Griggs, James Avery, Betty and Dan Griggs, David and Judy Avery, Paul and Karen Avery, brothers and sisters in law: Junior Wise, Bryan and Kathy Miller, Shawn and Dave Kiley, Chris and John Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Leila and Ken Walker, Alberta Wise, Sharon and Jim Husted, Violet and Otto Holloway, and Mary Avery.
