Richard "Dick" B. Goostrey age 83 of Ithaca, Michigan, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on August 23, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Ithaca, Michigan. Pastor Michael Loenshal will officiate with burial at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2004 & Sunday, August 22, 2004 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.
Dick was born in Lawton, Michigan on June 3, 1921 the son of Morton Robert & Dorothy Mabel ( Tolle ) Goostrey. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1940. Dick married Marjorie Parling on November 7, 1941 at First Presbyterian Parsonage, Ithaca, Michigan.
He proudly served his country in the Army/Air Force in WWII in China with the 14th photo recon. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. He owned and operated Dicka�(TM)s Studio & Camera Shop since 1946. He loved to read, do woodwork, and was a pilot who loved to fly his aircraft. Dick was a huge U of M football fan. He also loved to be a spectator at his grandchildren sports activities. He was an accomplished chef and he loved history. He was a lifelong and active member of Ithaca First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder and Potato Maker.
He was a member of Rotary International, Past Ithaca Rotary President honored with Paul Harris Fellow Recipient. Leader of the Rotary International Exchange Group to Japan, Recipient of the Ithaca Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year Award, Life member of Masonic Lodge #123, Gratiot County Commissioner, member of the Gratiot Community Hospital Board, member and Past President of the Professional Photographers of Michigan, Chairperson for the Republican Party for Gratiot County.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie Goostrey of Ithaca, MI, 6 children; Don Goostrey of Mason, MI, Jeff Goostrey of Ithaca, MI, Nancy & John Allen of Ithaca, MI, Stephen & Arlene Goostrey of Glendora, CA, Susan Greear of Ithaca, MI, Lisa Goostrey of Ithaca, MI, 14 grandchildren; Morgan & Rich Lambert, Shawn & Amy Goostrey, Jordon Goostrey, Brandi Allen, Jenna Allen, Patrick Goostrey, Katherine Goostrey, Jillian Macha, Jeffrey Macha, Sarah Greear, Michael Greear, Lindsay Godley, Cory Godley, Haley Godley, 5 great grandchildren; Grace, Weston, Jonah, Jacob, Carter, 1 brother Donald E. & Fran Goostrey of Lake Bluff, IL, sister-in-law Betty King of Lansing, MI, 3 brother-in-laws; Jack & Evelyn Parling of Ithaca, MI, Dick & Evelyn Parling of Stanton, MI, Don Parling of White Cloud, MI, sister-in-laws Phyllis Parling of Midland, MI, Evelyn Bloomberg of Holland, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, 2 brothers Robert & Pat, 1 sister Mary Jane, parents-in-law Vern & Cordie Parling, 1 brother-in-law Melvin Parling, 1 sister-in-law Donna Parling.
