Richard A. “Rich” Hoffman age 60, of Ovid, MI, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI, on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 10:00 A.M., with Rev. Fr. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 from 6-8 P.M. and Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Osgood Chapel, St. Johns, MI.
Richard was born in Kissimmee, Florida on January 23, 1956, the son of Floyd and Arna (Mosey) Hoffman during a farming winter break. He graduated from Chippewa Hills High School with the class of 1975. Rich married Debera (Parks) Hoffman on July 12, 1996 in Midland, MI.
Rich was raised on the family farm in Barryton, MI; farming was his love. Growing up he attended Pine Grove Tabernacle Church which his father helped build in Remus, MI. Rich retired from Hitachi in August of 1999. He was currently employed by Ventra (formerly American Bumper) in Ionia as a utility relief for assembly. Rich loved working, bowling, and cookouts, and he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, MI.
He is survived by his wife Debera Hoffman of Ovid, MI, daughter Andrea and Caleb Tangeman of St. Louis, MI, grandchildren; Azlinn, Aliyah, and Corbin, step children; Patrick (Sean) Gaffner of Clare, MI, Kristopher Gaffner of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Russell Gaffner of Clare, MI, (in which he was back up guardian for), Cheri and Phillip Schrenk of TX, Heather Carn of MI, step grandchildren; PJ (Phillip) Schrenk, Harvest Schrenk, and sister Ruth Donley of Saginaw, MI. He is also survived by many special cousins, other family members and by his dogs; Joe, Sage, Gabby, and Pippa. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Arna Hoffman, children; Jason and Jessica Hoffman, and sister Naomi Hoffman.
