Richard Payne

Richard Leslie Payne, age 72, of Owosso, MI passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Church of God, Owosso, MI on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. Rev. John Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso. Visitation will be held on Thursday December 2, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes Jennings-Lyons Chapel, Owosso, MI.

Richard was born in Durand, Michigan on August 15, 1938, the son of Leslie A. and Rose (Farro) Payne. Richard was a 1957 graduate of Mandeville High School. He resided most of his life in Owosso and was a member of the First Church of God, Owosso. Richard married Beverly Pardy on June 9, 1979 in Owosso.

Richard retired from GM Plant 2A in 1994 after 35 years. He was a member of the Fenton Competition Car Association, Chamber of Commerce Cruise to the Castle, CB Radio Club since 1968 and the Owosso Movie Museum. He was also a past member of the Great Lakes Car Club, Thunder Road Cruisers, Summer Night Cruisers and Owosso Camera Club. Richard was an avid Elvis collector.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Payne of Owosso, MI, daughter Kathy Nitcher of Owosso, MI, daughter Charlene and Charlie Rowell of Edgewood, FL, son Richard Leslie Payne Jr. and Linda of Coldwater, MI, daughter Jane Bateman of Ionia, MI, daughter Cynthia Shipp of Farber, MO, daughter Angela and Shawn Robart of Oakley, MI, son Richard Isaac Payne of Owosso, MI, daughter Christina and Rob Kaminski of Corunna, MI, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, brother Walter and Dede Payne of Flint, MI, and 2 sisters; Annette and James Smith of L'Anse, MI, Ileen Slagerman of Flint, MI. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant grandson Jonathan.
