Richard C. “Dick” Post age 87, of St. Louis, MI, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Warwick Living Center, Alma after a short illness.

Dick was born in St. Louis, MI on May 18, 1931. He graduated from St. Louis High School where he lettered in four sports and was the recipient of the Wheeler Trophy. He attended Ferris State University for a year, and then enlisted in the Air Force where he served for four years in Texas and was discharged in 1954 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Dick married Beverlee Barker on July 18, 1952 while in the service. Upon returning to St. Louis from the service, he took over ownership of the Pure Oil Gas Station on the corner of Washington and Main St. from his father. He owned the station for 23 years, and later worked at Midwest Building for 17 years.

Dick was a member of the first St. Louis Housing Commission Board.  He coached Little League Baseball, and loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at his Higgins Lake cottage. In their retirement, Dick and Bev enjoyed spending winters in Orange Beach, AL, and tending to his large garden and canning the bounty. He was a member of the St. Louis United Methodist Church and the St. Louis VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Myrtle Post of St. Louis, brothers Andy Post and Daniel Ellsworth, and his in laws Harold and Gladys Barker.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverlee Barker Post and children: Tom Post (Ann) of Traverse City, Jim Post (Mary) of St. Louis, Dave Post (Diana) of Ithaca, Sue Godbold (Tom) of Alma, Steve Post (Gail) of Mount Pleasant, and John Post (Pam) of St. Louis. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Following cremation, the family will have visitation at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Louis United Methodist Church, 116 S. Franklin St. in St. Louis, on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Terri Bentley officiating.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Heartland Hospice and Warwick Living Center in Alma for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice (1426 Straits Dr., Bay City, MI, 48706) or Warwick Living Center (842 Warwick Dr., Alma, MI 48801).
