Richard Reava

Richard Gale Reava, age 78, of Perrinton, Michigan died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Cornerstone Hospice at The Villages, Florida.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. A luncheon will be served following the services at Fulton Township Hall in Perrinton, Michigan.

Richard was born in Grayling, Michigan on March 9, 1932, the son of Sherman J. and Velma Edith (Peters) Reava. Richard graduated from Fredrick High School. He attended and gradated from C.M.U. earning his bachelors degree in 1958, and his Master degree in 1962. He then went on to do some post graduate work at U of M. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On May 21, 1983 he married the love of his life, Sally McAllister, who survives him.

Richard taught speech and hearing in the Caro, Michigan school system. He became the Director of Education of the Coldwater Regional State Home, and later the Mt. Pleasant Regional State Home. He retired from Montcalm County Community Mental Health Department in 1996. He was also a partner of the Reava Sewing Center in Mt. Pleasant from a number of years.

Richard loved his family, who adored him. By example, he taught his family to live each moment to its fullest. Richard enjoyed fishing on his lake, his annual trip to Canada with his fishing buddies, and the many activities at his southern home in Florida.

Survivors include his wife Sally Reava of Perrinton, Michigan, daughters; Lori McAllister and Jill (Michael) Glenn, sons; Douglas (MaryAnn) Reava, Jon (Bonnie) Reava, Jeff (Laura) Reava, and Brian (Dana) McAllister, 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 1 brother, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jay William, and 2 brothers; Dwain and Dwight.
