Robert Byrnes

Robert E. "Bob" Byrnes age 88, of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Welcome Home Assisted Living, Elsie, MI.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI, on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating.  Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, MI. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI.  A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Robert was born in Perry, MI on July 24, 1928, the son of Joseph and Rose (Powers) Byrnes.  He graduated from Ovid High School with the class of 1949. On November 5, 1949 he married Waneta Ann Frisbie in Laingsburg, MI.

Bob was a tool & die maker for 31 years at Oldsmobile in Lansing; retiring in 1981. After retirement he held some part time jobs working for McClelland Milk Hauling, Sheldon Meat Packing and drove cars for Sundance Chevrolet in St. Johns. He was a member of the Ovid Lions Club for over 50 years. Bob also served on the Ovid Ambulance and Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed sports including bowling and golfing. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid, MI.

He is survived by his wife Waneta Byrnes of Ovid, MI, 2 daughters; Sherry Byrnes of Ovid, MI, Julie Byrnes of Alpena, MI, 5 sons; Paul and Terri Byrnes of Adrian, MI, Rob and Robin Byrnes of Whitmore Lake, MI, Kevin and Lorii Byrnes of Fowlerville, MI, Mark and Darlene Byrnes of Laingsburg, MI, Bradley and Kelly Byrnes of Laingsburg, MI, 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and sister in law Doris Byrnes of Ovid, MI.  He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Dorothy and Joan and 2 brothers; Raymond and Hugh.
