Robert L. Douglas, age 82, of Palm Springs, CA, formerly of St. Louis, MI died Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Palm Springs Health Care Center in Palm Springs, CA.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes St. Louis Chapel on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Pastor Terri Bentley will officiate. Burial will take place at Cherry Grove Cemetery Clare, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 2-5 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Robert was born in Clare, Michigan on March 8, 1927, the son of Homer and Avis (Sutherland) Douglas. He graduated from Clare High School with the class of 1944, and served stateside in WWII. He graduated from Central Michigan University and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1952. He married his beloved wife Donna Seeley in 1949. Robert practiced law in St. Louis, MI from 1952 until 1986. He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and served on various advisory committees, and was also active in the St. Louis community serving as President of the Lions Club and was a founding member and legal counsel for the St. Louis Economic Development Corp. (SLEDCO). He was a past member of the St. Louis First United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed sunsets, sailing, fishing, and friends on Treasure Island for many years at their summer home which he designed and built on Higgins Lake. He was also an avid reader and history buff. In retirement, he and Donna enjoyed their winter home in Palm Springs, CA and their summer home in Michaywé.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna Douglas; daughters Dianne Douglas (Peter) Carroll of Hawthorn Woods, IL, and Jana Douglas (Peter) Boomer of Bloomfield Hills, MI; and grandchildren Lauren Elizabeth Carroll and Reagan and Charlie Boomer.
