Robert Charles "Bob" Gibson, age 88, of Elwell, MI, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at Schnepp Health Care Center, St. Louis with his family by his side.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Louis Church of Christ, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Alma, MI, at a later date.
Robert was born in St. Louis, Michigan on July 17, 1936, the son of Henry and Ivol Mae (Leonard) Gibson. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1956, and was a lifelong resident of Gratiot County. On March 31, 1961, Robert married Caren Jane Covell at the Alma Methodist Church. They were married forty-nine years prior to her passing on May 26, 2010. Bob dearly loved his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and faithfully supported them in all their activities.
Bob was a hard worker. He worked for Detroiter Mobile Home for 19 years, and Michigan Livestock for over 50 years. He had a vast knowledge of cattle, and his opinion was respected by many. Bob enjoyed raising cattle and going on "cattle tours."
Bob and Caren were leaders for the North Gratiot Livestock 4-H Club for over 20 years while their children were involved. He was very active with the Gratiot County Fair for Youth and on the Fair Board for many years. He was a dedicated Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers Fan.
He is survived by four children: Rock (Caren) Gibson, Mart (Michele) Gibson, Kellie (Tiger) Arens all of Elwell, MI; and Shannon (Larry) Travis of Shepherd, MI; sixteen grandchildren: Amy (Matt Crawford) Gibson, Jessica (Josh) Phenix, Kristopher (Madison Limron) Freed, Kyle (Abigail) Freed, Katherine (Nick Fowler) Freed, Ashlee (Josh) Smith, Cody (Jessica) Gibson, Taylor (Nathan) Westfall, Madison Arens, TJ (Jessica Courter) Arens, Amie (Luis) Loya, Stacie (Eric) Davis, Kimberly (Matt) Moffett, Larry Jr. (Ashley) Travis, Dominique (Kacie) SanMiguel, and Sebastian (fiancée' Starr Hansen) SanMiguel; twenty-three great-grandchildren: Damian, Logan, Kharman, McKenzie, Anijah, Nesiah, Lexi, Carolyn, Blake, Bryn, Weston, Brooks, Anikan, Guner, Abilene, Braxton, Baylor, Isla, Madeline, Audie, Maverick, Eugene, and Arthur; two brothers: Ron (Brenda) Gibson, and Rick (Roxanne) Gibson; brother-in-law Nick (Mary) Covell, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Caren, and his brother Richard (Pat) Gibson.
