Robert William Poling age 76, of St. Louis, Michigan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 9, 2007 at Pine River Health Care in St. Louis, after a long illness.
Memorial Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Steve Bowker officiating.
Robert was born on July 15, 1930 to William Bertram and Eska Opal ( Hall ) Poling in Junction City, Ohio. Robert moved to St. Louis in 1936, where he attended St. Louis Schools, and was active in many sports, especially basketball. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class on 1948. Robert met Barbara Jean Campbell, of Mt. Pleasant and they wed on February 18, 1950. He was formerly employed at Alwarda�(TM)s Dairy, Kroger, G&K Cleaners, Dow Chemical Corporation and Leonard Refinery, where he was chief operator. He retired from Total Petroleum in 1990 after 32 years. Robert was a member of the Alma Elks Lodge #1400. He loved his family and enjoyed his friends. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, and in his early years he loved to hunt and fish.
Robert is survived by his 4 children; Nancy & Richard Newberry of Bradenton, FL, Dennis Poling of Battle Creek, MI, Linda & Daniel Rhoades of St. Louis, MI, Michael Poling of Alma, MI, 2 granddaughters Olivia Vogt of Riverdale, MI, Elyse McCaul of Mt. Pleasant, MI, and great granddaughter Ava Jean Vogt of Riverdale, MI. Surviving sisters and brothers include Annabelle Bush of St. Louis, MI Betty Strode of Junction City, OH, Richard Bringardner of Clemson, S.C. Maxine Bebow of Houghton Lake, MI, and Shirley Stubbs of Ft. Meyers, FL. After 54 years of marriage, Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara. Also deceased is a sister Jerri Grey of Junction City, OH.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alma Elks Lodge #1400. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel
